Windows Live Custom Domains – Free Email for Your Domain Name November 24, 2005

Posted by Ced in Email, Online, Services.

Windows Live Custom Domains (Beta Service) lets you create up to 20 email accounts, check your email from any Web-enabled PC, filter junk mail using Microsoft SmartScreen technology, scan & clean virus from your email, and have seamless access to MSN Messenger, MSN Spaces, etc. All of these are free, provided that you already own your own Internet domain name.

Free Web mail with massive storage may be all the rage, but Microsoft is taking a different approach with a new Windows Live service: bring your own domain. Users can point their own domain name at Microsoft and take advantage of the company’s infrastructure and online e-mail interface. [BetaNews]

Email access access is enabled through the web, but desktop email clients are supported for a small subscription fee.

This could probably change the way domain registration services price or bundle other free services with domain name purchases. I sense the skyrocket of domain name sales in the coming weeks.
